Tank safe paint?

I am building a new reef tank. It will have a center divider (made of glass) to separate the front portion (display) from the back portion (fuge/sump). I would like to have the divider opaque so you can't see the back portion from the front. I would love to paint the divider dark blue or black, but I don't know if there is any reef safe paint I can use.

Any ideas?

Any alternatives?

Thanks!

You're welcome.

I have used this many, many times...so have dozens of people.
Do a search for Krylon.

Just south - at Eglin Air Force Base. Right next to Fort Walton Beach and Niceville - across the Bay from Destin. Beautiful beaches!

My ex=wife was stationed there she just got transferred to somewhere in N.M. lol.

That link work for you?

Krylon is safe to use, but will chip. I have sprayed my internal piping etc and part of my regular maintenance involves removing it all, soaking it in vinegar, and repainting it. Just did it yesterday :).

Then again, I do have four urchins...

Is there a way to safely laquor(sp?) the black paint so that it doesn't chip over time? Also, what do paint chips do to a system?

Actually, it did not. :) It took me right back to the "server overload" page. But it's all good. I was able to get on first thing this a.m. and the server was back up for us moochers. I think it may be time to support RC with as much as I am here. :D

Krylon Fusion it is. Now I gotta find a place that sells it. I went to the local Home Depot, and all they sell is rustoleum. But I have a Lowes, an Ace, a Walmart, a Target, a K-mart...

Then I need to pick a color. Black? Blue? Fuschia? hmmm... :)

How much cure time did you give the paint? Supposably it is chip resitant after a week of cure time because it bonds to the pvc. But I don't know if krylon makes an "urchin proof" paint

apparently feed urchins

My home depot didn't have it either, I had to go to sherwin williams.

As for the cure time, I was setting up the new tank during the move, and the drain elbows were sprayed a few months before ever seeing water.

I assume the paint flakes are harmless and inert. If the paint is safe stuck to PVC, its probably safe wherever else it ends up (filter sock, most likely).

I build water treatment plants, Tnemec has a Potta-Pox Series 165 that is safe. It is a 2 part epoxy paint that is used to paint submerged piping in treatment plants.

Is it readily available? And does it serve in highly corrosive environments - which is the million $$ question when dealing with salt water.
