Tank selection, DUE TO DOWN GRADE. Need ideas

I currently have a 90 but with a sump about 100 plus gallons of water. I find the upkeep a bit troublesome for me right now in life. I can't devote enough money and time for it. I feel bad and dont' want to continue like this so I'm thinking of either quitting or downsizing..

the thing is I am not sure how to plumb it to my desire. i am always a fan of surface skimming and im not too familiar with the over flow technology (HOB) on smaller tanks.

are they prone to flooding as i've read or is there something out there that works just as well like the intank reef ready tanks?

or could I drill the top back of the tank?

any ideas?

You can easily drill the back upper portion of the tank and make your own overflow.

What size are you thinking? Any tank is going to take a decent amount of work, and a 90g isn't THAT much different from say a 38g or 29g.

I'm going the opposite way right now, 38g to 90g and it doesn't seem like it will be all that much different other than larger water changes and more salt.

you might consider a 10gl tank if downgrading, that size nano can be great if you dont wanna quit but cant afford the time or money and you probably have everything you need in your big tank.... also you can easily drill a tank even at this size for bulkheads and such, there is a step by step in the newb forum

Look into Calfo overflows. They seem awesome, just wish I had more room to be able to do it.

I could not agree anymore
the only reason I could see wanting to downgrade is due to lack of space. Bigger Is Better and more stable if you already have the 90 set up and running you should already have all the equipment and so on down grading could possibly result in added expenses such as possibly needing a different protein skimmer, lighting, heaters ect.....

i've gone from 30 to 55 to 90 and i've got an idea of how its like. the marginal things make the biggest different. the phosban is twice as much, the water chances, twice..

i guess in my situation im trying to cut down the water costs. other than that, everything is stable.

phosban, water changes, whats that???? LOL
I can understand your point. I am just trying to talk you you of something you may regret later.
