Tank shocking me?

Definitely ended up being the HOB filter... Called Marineland and they want me to send it in first before they ship me a new one. Seriously ***.

I just got a 29g (reef ready) tank on here and I'm seriously considering just hooking up that tank and going with a sump filtration now. Any ideas? Would a sump really be worth it for a 29g?

A sump would totally be worth it. Think of it as a training sump for when you decide to go larger!

Seriously tho, you'll be able to significantly increase your water volume as well as hide ugly things like your heater and skimmer. Volume really helps stability. As the old drag racing saying goes "there's no replacement for displacement."

go with a sump.

and let that be a lesson aboutmarineland stuff :) sad, but I dont know why they are still in business.

Salt will intensify any conductivity from the stray voltage current too. Way worse on a SW tank than a freshwater. Sump - better for multiple reasons of course.
Regardless of that, discard any piece of equipment with the stray voltage where ever it is. Time to replace it.

I've seen it happen on things in a sump too. Just time for a new one.

Definitely want your equipment plugged into a GFCI outlet. I have tripped my breaker twice from a very small pump. Gave me quite the scare...

The thing that worries me is that they're completely different tanks. Essentially I'm starting over completely with this new tank other than a couple lbs of live rock. I wanted to have both tanks set up originally and then slowly transfer everything to the 29g but now it seems as though it's going to have to be a big jump?

Would anyone be willing to help me out with the plumbing / sump?

Just make the jump to a bigger tank from the start.... We have all started small and gradually go bigger and waste a lot of money on multiple tanks. 57 rimless would be perfect for you...lol
Small tanks are very hard to keep parameters stable in. Even a 29 can be a challenge.
