tank stand

So I built a stand for my tank out of 2 by 4's & I'm trying to figure out ideas for how to wrap the stand to make it look pretty. I am thinking about using magnets & some sort of removable panels but don't know what would look good. Any suggestions or photos of your finished stands? I live in an apartment so using a table saw is out unfortunately.

I don't have photos since I've never done it myself, but you could have the home depot cut your plywood and use rare earth magnets. You'd have to counter sink the magnets somehow.

you can use my table saw if you want, I wouldn't trust the depot to cut what you want- they won't be very accurate (and have signs saying they won't be).
If you buy your sheathing material (say baltic birch ply or some hardwood faced ply) at woodworker's source (tempe location on kyrene-ish and eliot I think) I believe that they will cut it to what you want, and they will do a good job of it.

The way I would countersink the magnets in would be to use a forstner bit- it's designed to make flat bottomed holes for cabinetry work.

also, depending on the squareness of your 2x4 stand, you may have to do a lot of shimming of whatever panel work you put on. I'm not saying anything about your carpentry skills (although that could factor in too ;-)), I'm saying that 2x4 lumber is by no means consistent in any way.

Not true. It depends on who cuts for you. I have a guy at my local store that is always 100% accurate. You just have to ask up front how good they are at cutting. And I've never seen a sign at any stores that indicates they don't cut straight. That's a new one to me.

Didn't say anything about not cutting straight. There is a sign next to the saw (and I have seen this at more than one location) that states something to the effect of no precision cuts, and that cuts will be within an 1/8" of what you ask for.
