hey guys hows you tank temp? i dont have a chiller but i have an a/c in my house.. my a/c is been on for the whole day ecxept 12am to 8am..i was able to keep my tank at 80-82degrees...is this a safe temp if it keeps up for weeks?..how your tank?

Yup. Gotta have robust systems with redundant back-ups. Or be ready to start from scratch now-and-then.

I was pretty impressed with the evaporative cooling over at the Coral Reef Shop, Brian had a was it a 50 or 65, or 75g? tub hanging at 68 degrees today. Inside the shop was 90 ;) He was keeping it that low for a temperate zoned shark that he got through an apparent mishap.
15$ fan or 400$ chiller.....hmmm

well, i just hope my A/C wont break...i bought four 9" twin window fan just incase...there is just no spac for the chiller in my house and its kinda out of my budget for now...i actually did ok last year when it went to 115deg here in sac..well my A/C was on the whole time that day.hehehe thanks guys.

Fans will work wonders for keeping the temp down. They also work great for emptying a sump in a hurry. Keep lots of top off water around.

If you can keep up with top-off and humidity fans go a long way, but I sure like the assurance of a chill box. My temps used to flux +/- 5 degrees with fans and I was always tinkering with turning them off and on to regulate. Now I'm down to 2 degree range. Something comforting about that.

I also don't have a chiller and have fans in the hood on a timer and use evaporative cooling with a top-off system. Yesterday I went through 6 gallons of water - the tank (my 180 Gallon) didn't go over 82.

I have a chiller, but also keep water bottles with RODI water in my freezer. If I'm home when the chiller comes on I put ice in the sump to reduce my electricity use. It usually makes the chiller turn of in about 10 min.

I still don't have my under-the-house system hooked up to my main tank, but am hoping that it will keep the temp more stable when I do. It's on my list for this weekend after I finish fixing the sprinkelers.
