Jay are your lights in a hood? Mine is an open top tank. But I don't have any fans blowing across the top of the tank yet.

I've found that my pumps actually keep the tank pretty warm as well. My heaters very rarely come on, the house has to be quite chilly for the heaters to kick in.

I think that with *no fans* blowing on the water, my pumps can keep the tank approx. 8F above room temp. I have two sequence darts and one mag 9.5 running, all unrestricted.

My most common temperatures are 80 at the coolest in the mid morning to 83 at the warmest in the late evening.

Closed top canopy with open back. I have 2 fans pushing in 105 CFM from the sides. 1 on each. I run my AC in my house about 77 to 79 depending on time. If I ran it at 74, I probably could get my temps below 80.

Do you have any ventilation on the top for air to get out, or does it just exit where it can?
I'm in process of designing my canopy with fans, but don't know if I should incorporate vents anywhere. The significant other prefers not to see lights on the back wall with an open back.

I've been thinking of a type of light/air baffle.......

I didn't have any holes up top but I recently drilled 3 holes up top 3" in diameter and did absolutely ZERO for my temps. If you have an open back with those two fans, the air will be pushed out the back.

One thing I'll suggest - get some fan grilles with built in dust filter or make a DIY dust filter. I have two fans blowing into my stand on one end and two blowing out the other end. Before using filter floss over the inbound fans, I had a coating of dust on the plumbing and other stuff that had air blowing directly on it. Things under there tend to be damp/salty and the dust just hits it and sticks - it's really disgusting. Then I had other fans blowing the dust down into the water! So I feel better with at least some type of filtration on the air coming into the stand and being used to cool the tank water...
