Tank Transfer

After loosing my first shipment of new fish to velvet, I'm planning on getting another shipment soon. This time I plan on doing the tank transfer method for QTing. I know it works well against Ich but does it have any affect on anything else like velvet? If so should I do more than the recommended time frame? I'm also trying to find a link to a detailed thread on the procedure of TT.

Thanks all.

nope it only works on ICH, absolutely no effect on anything else.

+1 - TTM only works for Ich. But, the recommended 3+ weeks of observation post-TTM will allow you to see the symptoms of velvet/brook/etc before introducing them to the DT.

it is uncommon enough to have velvet that my personal opinion is it isn't worth treating fish proactively for it, like I do for Ich. i have had one fish die from velvet before though.

IMO, it is best to do tank transfer to eliminate ich, then observe the fish for a minimum of 3 weeks after tank transfer to insure that none of the deadly parasites are present. Any vendor that runs copper in their fish system can mask parasites which will exhibit once in quarantine within a month of arrival.

Looking for your opinion. During the tank transfer method to rid ich I did the following.
Day 4 transfer
Day 6 transfer- made a mistake by accident
Day 9 transfer.
Tomorrow is day 12 transfer. Should I treat day 9 as the beginning and go out three more tank transfers to be safe?

If you missed any by much more than 72 hours, you need to start over. Anything under 72 hours is fine as long as you continue for a total of 12 days. So Day 6 wasn't the mistake, was more likely Day 4 that was. You need 4 consecutive non-error'ed transfers for it to have worked properly.

Let me clarify. I transitioned the fish in the morning of day 4 to new tank (72 hours total time) on day 6 I transitioned the fish (48 hours in one tank not 72)

Oh ok. 48 hours is perfectly fine. Personally I wouldn't even add a 5th transfer, but you could do one on the morning of Day 13 or 14 and be good, just to ensure that the full 12 days passes. All the parasites would have jumped off the fish by Day 7 or 8 anyway.
