Tankmates in a FOWLR

In the coming months, I'm planning on upgrading from a 55 reef to at least a 90, and I was trying to come up with ideas as to what I could do with the 55, and I decided I'd convert that one into a FOWLR, since I've always wanted lions, but I love my more passive fish as well. So for the past week or so, all I've been doing is planning out a livestock list that would have compatible tankmates. Unfortunately, I'm a little sketchy on how well some of them get along. So as a last resort, I'm creating a thread. Here's what I've come up with:

The seperated into the ones I know I want that I'm relatively sure should get along, and possible tankmates.

Definite (all):
- Volitan Lionfish
- Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish
- Dwarf Zebra Lionfish
- Harlequin Tusk
- Snowflake Eel (or other)

Tankmates (some):
- Auriga Butterfly
- Copperband Butterfly
- Bicolor Dwarf Angel
- Lemonpeel Dwarf Angel
- Porcupine Puffer
- Marine Betta

Please note that I don't plan on having all of these, as I'm quite aware that it would be extremely crowded and hard on the fish.

Any personal experience with any combination of the above would be most appreciated, and any suggestions for other choices are welcome as well!

Thanks a lot in advane!

volitan, SFE and porc puffer will all need a upgrade sometime.
You will love a fuzzy lion if you get one

I agree with Patchy. becareful putting a volitan in with dwarf lions, as volitans will think of them as food when they are full grown. good luck and good times with your tank.

I have read that a volitan has the ability to eat anything up to 50% its body size. I would like to have one, but I think my Queen angel would pick on it. I have had one in the past in a much smaller tank than my present 225 and that was the situation. I have been contemplating getting a volitan big enough to not to be hassled, but not so big it will eat my flame angle. My LFS will accept back fish if there are incompatibility problems, unless they warn me that it may not work. I don't think I will get one, but it would make a handsome addition to my present crew

You can leave the smaller lions and/or bicolor + lemonpeel in the 55 for quite some time. 90 will not cut it longterm for the volitan and porky (esp porky) However, if purchased as a small specimen you should get a year or two. A stock list like that will put you in the 180-220 gallon tank range eventually. The really cool thing by doing tank upgrades is that you can leave the smaller fish in the older tanks and it gives you much greater flexibility getting specimens you want since they can live in separate tanks.
