Tanks for frags?

I have a 240 display and a 75 gallon sump. I have 2 40br and 75 gallon tank I want to plumb into the system, which tanks should be a frag tank/tanks, and which should be refugium? Thanks for the advice!!

Depends on a few things. What type of frags and what kind of lights. What do you want your refugium to do. I have a 300g sump for water volume and some LR as well as other bacteria hosting medium. A 15g chaeto refugium. A 50 g Rubbermaid frag tank because its shallow wide and long. I am currently adding another 15g low flow Xenia refugium.

I have had 40b and don't like the depth but with decent led your fine. Again I don't use led for sps due to shading long term issues. When I used 40b I had to use overflows because I was timid about drilling. F that, NEVER AGAIN! I hate overflows. Why I did 50g Rubbermaid. Drilling holes in plastic is super simple. My 15g refugium are also plastic. Its top down only but whole system is meant to grow not show. In the end everyone who checks out systems doesn't mind the top down. I know I don't as the caretaker.

I have mostly softies, few lps, but would like to try my hand at sps. I have some t5's and MH sitting around all Ned new bulbs. I have leds on my display, but would be willing to switch lights around. I would like the refugium to help with water quality, and food for coral. What kind of corals do you have

Mine is a new grow system, just bought a house. i have the 50g for sps and high flow high light 8bulb ATI, the xenia in low flow e27 Led lights. the thing is IMO, you need to figure what the goal is. A softie frag tank would have different flow and light than an SPS frag tank. A chaeto refugium would be different than a DSB refugium. It all comes to what you want to do, research best way to do it then give it a go. I have grown it all over my 20 years of reefing minus cold tanks and gorgians, in my latest set up everything is tailored to exactly what i want it to grow.

Are you drilling the 40 breeders? It also comes down to how are you planning on running your plumbing and pumps.

I am drilling the 40s, would it be good to have one 40 for sps, and the other for softies, all on one system, I have a bunch of 20s laying around too, are they too small for growing sps?

My frag tank is 100 gallons, and I have two 40 breeders connected. I also have a 275 gallon pvc tub sump. The added water volume is truly a savior. In all aspects. I'd say, go as big as you can on the fuge. I have mangroves growing all over, got an oversized skimmer, two huge trays of sand and live rock all over the pvc tub sump. I hooked up my chiller and reactors there as well. I got a jug of kalk solution dripping there. I got red banded trochus breeding in that sump and they make their way to the frag tank and keep the algae non existent. Again, go as big as you can! You won't regret it.

imo the ones with the largest footprint should be the frag tanks to fit more frags, the refugium can be more vertical to fit more algae.
