tap water filter

Does anybody know where I can pick up aquarium pharmaceutical tap water filters that are not mark up beyond reason?

Only reasonable places I've found are www.drsfostersmith.com and www.bigalsonline.com but of those two I've only found the replacement cartridges available on drsfostersmith.

I have seen them in a few stores around here but, yeah there is quite a markup...

I would order them from Foster & smith, Wholesale price for the replacement cartridges is around $12 for 1. The markup that i've seen for them in local stores is not unreasonable, IMO, but you can save by going this route. It is , however, nice to support the local shops whenever possible. They don't get the quantity discounts these mail order places do.

Agreed, however, one of the LFS that had the replacement cartridges was charging $27 for it when you can buy the whole unit new from Drs F&S for the same price. I definately support my LFS stores but not when it's that big of a markup. I prefer to have an actual dinner tonight instead of a McD's cheeseburger... yes, my reef tank usually eats better than I do.

I agree that is a tad high. LOL. The LFS shouldn't markup a replacement part higher than they can order a whole new unit in for. Just my thought.

Thanks for the info. I don't like sticking it to anybody. In fact I consider both of the LFS my friends. But sometimes you have to look out for #1. After all thats what they are doing isn't it?
