target feeding

coral only gets about three quarters of its nutrition from photosynthesis, and that it can only get nitrogen from prey capture

100% of nitrogen comes from food; zero comes from photosynthesis. Photosynthesis only provides sugars (energy).

Feeding is everything. However it's one of my peeves to have to target feed, so I won't do it. My goal is to automate everything and have as much food in the water as possible. so as to emulate the ocean.

I thought corals ate a lot more in the wild since zooplankton is their maik food source. Are there not hundreds of billion of zooplankton in the ocean?

I feed cyclopeeze to my acans, wellso brain, and my favia/platygyra brains as well. They all love it. I've seen a direct correlation between feeding and the rate at which my acans grow/generate new heads.

Yes there are billions of plankton particles in the ocean. Lakes too. If you include bacteria as plankton particles (corals eat bacteria too), there can be 10 million in one milliliter.
