I am getting ready to order from TBS and was hoping someone can confirm that TBS rock is dense as opposed to porous?

Thanks

I am near Eola and Wolf Crossing.

That's pretty close...........good luck with your tank, I've been keeping Florida live rock on and off for nearly 20 yrs. and it's the best stuff out there! :D

florida rock has all the bad hitchhikers in it that you dont want go with a better grade rock

Yes, imagine that..... there are actually hitchhikers on TBS rock! That may be because it's actual -LIVE ROCK- with myriad life as opposed to that stuff shipped from overseas posing as live rock which is basically a rotting smelly mess of dead coral pieces with maybe some coralline algae and bacteria that survived the long trip from sitting in styro boxes in hot airports and warehouses for who knows how long.

This is why the overseas stuff has to be 'cured', because it's sick, very sick, and needs to be brought back from the dead over several weeks of smelly 'curing', and water changes and still will never have anywhere near the life on it that TBS rock has.

If someone is looking for an actual piece of the ocean in their tank with tons of various life on it there is no better choice than TBS rock IMO. On the other hand, if you're looking for rock that been scrubbed, dried out, wrapped in newspaper, has been sitting and rotting away in boxes for weeks or months, and then takes weeks to develop a little bacteria on it.........then by all means use the overseas stuff.

Tell us how you really feel Howard...Hitchhikers don't bother me that is part of the journey. When I told a friend of mine I was getting rock from TBS he was very excited to see what goodies would come with the rock....

like i said buy a better grade rock florida rock is plain and loaded with trouble

This is based off of what? Experience? or just "what you heard"? If you have your own opinion that's fine but it's not a good idea to generalize "florida rock" just because you had a bad experience.

TBS is one of a kind. Take a look, there are zero, count them z-e-r-o complaints about TBS rock. Every single comment is a rave review, no other rock can boast this. I know this because i've read negative reviews on many other rock suppliers. TBS doesn't have a single bad review.

I'd rather deal with a few hitchikers than to look at a bare white rock and wait 1 year for it to colonize 1/4 of the life that is on TBS rock. I guess some people just like to stay in the dark.

Back to the original question!!! Only Slightly denser than pacific rock. It is actually quite porous with a lot of small to large internal openings. Decidedly not the granite boulders mis-informed (ah hmm) individuals interject every now and then. HTH

If you are going to make an opinionated statement like this you should do better at explaining yourself. Better grade rock? Loaded with trouble? It seems quite clear that your purpose in posting here is to get attention rather than to share your marine aquaria experiences in a manner meant for understanding, discussion, or education.

"Loaded with trouble" depends on how you view a reef and the creatures that inhabit it. The rock we have received from TBS has hitchhikers but they all have served a unique and useful purose. The gorilla crabs have made excellent prey for the mantis shrimp. When the mantis shrimp want an easy meal they pick up uneaten food on the sand. And so the cycle of life goes . . .

If memory serves I believe I've seen Richard post that rock from the florida keys is more porous than pacific rock.

divemonster, They typically cannot explain themselves because in most cases they have no facts behind them and/or have never even seen or much less owned this type of rock and are usually just inexperienced people repeating something they heard from someone else.

i guess some has better taste than others natural not from a pile of rocks thrown in the ocean and then call it live rock there are much better quality out there come on

troyman, Why don't you give it a rest before you make a complete idiot out of yourself, you're already 98% there and don't have a clue what you're talking about.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
