I knew what he was "aiming for"..... reading seems ok to me concidering what you started with. Be sure to check your calibration once in a while. I checked mine and my refractometer was off recently.

I am not an expert by any means, but I would not be willing to accept 14ppm as a result?

My home H2O is about 190, my result has been Zero since I got the RO/DI. I have 3 replacement columns which I recently ordered but am waiting to install if the TDS reads anything greater than zero.

Somehwere in the back of my head I remember a threat which mentioned that anything up to 4 is acceptable.

I agree...my tap runs around 250. After RODI, it was down to 0. After 12 months of use (right around 5 gal/day ave use), TDS up to about 5. Just replaced cartridges.

14 sounds too high.
Is your meter out of calibration?

No meter is brand new. I just got it the oher day. I do not use and RO/DI unit. I have a home drinking RO system that i run.

Filters have not been changed in longtime. It uses 3 filters and has a pressure storage tank. It gets little use & I do mean little use. I never use the thing till rescently!..

I will be ordering an RO/DI unit. I'm looking at the Typhon III system that everyone raves about. But, I'm in no rush really to order it.

I think that reading of 14ppm is still pretty high. I would try and get it to zero.
I started using a 5 stage ro/di unit, with pressure tank and drinking faucet. The final stage being a carbon filter for taste. The TDS before the carbon was "0" and after the carbon was "14+". I started collecting my fish water before the carbon filter.
