Te Big Question: Sump, Fuge, or Both?

So here's the Million Dollar Question. Which is the way to go? 1.sump, 2. Fuge, or 3. Both?

I had a 55 gollon reef tank with a few small corals, 15 or so hermits, 15 or so snails, 2 blue green Chromis's, 2 Clowns, 1 yellow tang, and 1 sea serpent. I had high Phosphates so I bought a RO/DI system and now the phos is nearly 0, but I broke down my 55 and put everything in a 29. I lost 2 blue green chromis's most of my snials and hermits as well as my serpent. I'm starting over with new substrate, a new tank, still have a skimmer (seaclone), canister filter (XP3) and 2 pwoer heads. I'm looking to add a sump, a fuge, or both! I'm looking for advice and to see what everybody else is doing!

I also have questions if I should be using a UV Sterilizer as well as a better skimmer (currently using a seaclone).

Any help will be graetly appreciated!!!!!

Add both. They are both nice to have. You don't have to have a UV. Its not a have to have. Yes, I would upgrade the skimmer to a better type such as an ASM skimmer.

You will probably want to have both. Remember that UV kills everything, good bacterias as well as bad. Also you may want to sell or exchange the yellow tang as that is way to small of a tank for any tang.

The ASM skimmers are excellent for in sump use, but for this small of a set up you may want to look at maybe the Remora.

Aw, that sounds rough. How come so many moves in this little time?

Why not just fuge in the sump? This seems like the ideal for most people.

Agreed on UV's being not a necessity (controversial subject about just how effectively most work, given the sizes of ones avail on the market, and their wattages). I would save my money for other things, and save my time for setting up the 29 as a hospital tank after the changeover.

I think I agree on the UV sterilizer being bad. I also am going to make the 29 gallon my hospital tank after the transfer.

If I were to get a fuge, I'd like to display it. Still debating.
