Teardrop Maxima likes being on its side?

I received this 6" Teardrop Maxima about 8 days ago.

It is about 14" under a 250w 10k XM bulb.

Ca is 430, dkh is 10, temp is a steady 79. All of my SPS are growing like nuts (about 16 different frags). This is my first clam thoug, so please be patient.

It has attached to a small piece of live rock under its foot, but insists on laying on its side facing the front glass. It is still attached to the rock and is not gaping and the mantle looks very good.

Could I have too much lighting? It started out directly under the halide (14" below with some live rock under it and on the sides, but over the period of 3-4 nights, it gradually moved the rocks and is laying on its side. It seems happy now and is attached nicely, but I am wondering if I should try to move it in the nesxt couple weeks so it is not on its side, or if I should leave it.

I'm new into clams myself and I have a few that likes to be on its side. Everytime I stand it back up, it'll go back on its side. It's the boss and if it's happy that way, I let it be. I moved it many times (I lost count - then I gave up...hahah).

From what I've read on this board, the experts would say, let it stand on its side.

Maybe the rock it has attached is too small to support its weight.

I was thinking that, but I actually added rubble around it to support it and stays in place all day, then overnight it knocks the rubble away.

I'm going to let it settle in for another couple days then try placeing it on a large rock, with an indentation and see if he is happier there.

Oh yeah, I will not remove the rock from his foot either

Same thing with my Crocea.. It insists on leaning on it's side.. I don't know whats up.. It's healthy from what my eyes can tell... Just don't know what's up with it.

Hopefully these oddball clams are OK and just more comfortable on their sides. . .

I just ordered a 6" Crocea (it arrives Sat AM) and am looking for a Deresa to round out my clams

I think the problem may be too much water flow - clams hate that (at least mine do) try moving them to a more "protected area" and make sure to put a rock under them - I think you will find they will stay upright.

He is at about a 45 degree angle now, with a rock under him.

Seems to be happy there - gets a lot of light on his mantle also.
