i was searching online and i came across a teddy bear crab and they look cute.. saltwaterfish.com says they are only 3/4" ... i am having a hard time believing this concidering they are $25.00 soo i looked on google and i cant find anything on them... any info?? reef safe?? hard to keep?

the only crabs I've ever heard called teddy bear are gorilla crabs but they get bigger than 3/4" and are certainly not reef safe. Can you copy and paste a pic of them from the site?

wow....the name fits! pretty crazy looking. I have no idea how they behave on the reef or how big they get. They are however a great conversation piece.

The one in the image is Polydectus cupulifer. Like pom-pom crabs (Lybia tesselata & it's relatives) it normally carries anemones in both big claws. They get up to about 2" across the carapace, add in another 1.5-2" for the leg span so a really big one would be about 4". Since they use the big claws to hold the anemones they feed with their smaller legs & are less destructive than other crabs.

If their demeanor is similar to that of the pom-pom then you have no worries. My Pom-Pom is by far the least aggressive thing on my reef. And he's very cool to watch.

wow thats so cool...i have a 14 gallon reef tank... with
2 false clowns (about 1 inch)
1 small small pygmy angel
1 cleaner shrimp
baby (1 inch) horseshoe crab that i am getting rid of once it growns another inch or so ... just needed it to sift my sand because i was having some algae problems in the sand
4 snails
2 hermit crabs

could i get a teddy bear crab or is it too much in my tank... and also do you have to have a tank that can keep anemones to keep this crab since it has anemones on its claws??

I actually had one hitch hike in on my LR. He's about the size of a penny and personally I think hes ugly. He doesn't have anemones though.

i got 1 as a hitch hiker also, though its much lighter than the pic above. hes about 1.5" and is probably not reef safe. i think he eats a snail every once in a while. i dont care though.
