You can not mount the TEK fixture ( not the retrofit) inside of a canopy can you. I am pretty sure this is a no but i figured it would not hurt to help.
well i guess my main concern would be the lenth and thickness. like you say i guess it depends on the canopy size. but it seems these fixtures are designed for the exact lenth of the aquarium leaveing no room to mount it.
When I had a T5 setup I was able to put a 6-bulb fixture inside an All-Glass oak canopy by using the leg/bracket system that's made for the Tek light fixtures. It sat about 5" off the top of the water.
