Tell me what you think of these lights...

You could probably get them super cheap if you hopped a mac flight to China....

With that, I looked at getting a set of Jebo until I did a google on them and didnt find one positive thing about the system. So I searched for a used set of lights and ended up getting a great deal. Do that, and then we can make a hood for you! Probably spend the same amount of money and get a much better product.

your right, did some deeper searching.... maybe not....

how about a sunpod,..? the only thing I dont like about the sunpod is that it's only the MH bulbs and no PC's or T5 or anything.... what do you guys think...?

sunpod 36"

2-150w HQI

6 white lunar LEDS
6 blue lunar LEDS

my tank measures 35" but I doubt that will be a problem.

Also I plan on building a Wooden Canopy that rests atop my tank to house my lights, fans etc. So it really doesn't have to be aesthetically pleasing.

im running icecap ballasts and hamilton bulbs.

my last halide set-up I got on here for $125 shipped, all hamilton, 1 bulb 175 system.

as for the sunpod, I havent heard much about them at all....how much $$ are you talking?

Teh best thing to do is retrofit kits. I have found that is the cheapest way and you have the flexibility to set it up how you want.

Basically a ballast, endcaps and a bulb. You wire everything unless the kit comes already wired mount them and turn them on. No fancy hood or cover. Just simple parts.

That sounds like it might be exactly what I'm looking for, keep an eye out for some good buys... I'm looking. I should start a thread on my build here soon. Thanks !

36 inch

Ideally 2x150w MH or 1x250w MH
VHO
moonlights

Retro Kit since I will be constructing a canopy myself, which brings me to.......

Can I build the canopy out of wood and run the Halides....? won't it warp, catch on fire etc etc.....

Absolutely you can, take a look at my gallery, I built it at the hobby shop. I've always used Marine Depot for lighting equipment, it's worth the guarantee to get them here in one piece.

Before you buy lights, find out what the height of the tank is as well. If you are over 18 ", go for 175 watt halides and suppliment with T-5s I personally don't like the pinkish color VHO puts off unless it is all Actinic. If you are under 18 ", you could make it with NO actinics. Wood will be fine for a hood and won't burn. There is a good distance between the bulb and the wood.
