Temp 83.1! Any experience with fans?

I need to purchase a fan ASAP for my sump. Looking for the strongest force with the quietest motor preferably for free. Just kidding about free, any price catagory is fine. I just want good quality and silent as possible. It has to be large enough to handle 100g sump and 210g tank.

Thanks,

Do you have a sump? If so can you put a "house" fan over it? I did that and a small box fan works great.

Fans work great. I was shocked at how quickly they can drop the temperature of a tank. They do cause alot more evaporation which may not be a bad thing if your dripping kalk anyways.

Is this really a bad thing because my tank runs around that temp?

I like to keep my thanks between 82-84.

For big systems, I like those newer styled squiril cage fans. I have a few from Stanley, and one from black & Decker They move a lot of air and are pretty quiet. over my 10'look down I was able to drop the temp from 87to 82 (with a room temp of 90) in less tan 3 hours. I new it could pull the temp down, but I didnt think it could happen that quickly.

I may using a bathroom exhaust fan and pipe it to the outside . works great only was under $22.00 for all parts needed. no more heating the room up. look for one that make little sound you can find

I thought the best you could hope for with a fan was to bring the water down to room temperature.

Rod, what's a squirrel cage?
Do you run fans under tanks for the heat from pumps, fuge lights and things?

Don't forget canopy fans work this way, too.

In our climate, do be watchful during wintertime. A cold night, a furnace set back to a low temp ... and I've found my heater struggling to maintain temp when I've left fans running on high.

Quite a savior in summertime, though.

I have a 9" clip-on fan that blows over the sump on my 75. I have it on a timer so it goes on and off when my lights go on and off. Temp stays at a constant 78.8 degrees all year long, unless we don't run the A/C on a very warm day. I lose about a gallon a day to evaporation.
