Hello I have a 220 I'm running with 2 250s mh

I'm having temp fluctuate from 77-81possibly 82 my sps have been looking terrible rtn at base no PE
I've been attributing this to biopellets but when I checked temp tonight an realized it was 77 and going up too 82 during day is this a reason sps r rtn no PE????

Your high temp is not too bad, but I guess you have the tank in an area (?basement) where it cools off at night. Perhaps use a chiller, fan, or something to keep the temp swing a bit less?

Possibly, especially if some of your water parameters are not up to spec. Measure water at different times of the day to see if any parameters are also changing drastically over the course of a day. That would really harm your SPS. They need things to be stable, temperature for sure, but not as much as water chemistry needs to be.

My tanks regularly fluctuate that much with no ill effects.

I'd look at other aspects - maybe high alkalinity with biopellets? ULNS have issues with alkalinity over 8-9 dKH.

What are you using to monitor the temp? I used to use digital thermometers from coralife and other vendors and they definitely lose zero over time. Tank read 75, was actually at 87. Aside from that, like some already mentioned, that fluctuation isn't too bad. I'd look for another issue elsewhere.

Without a chiller, or running the AC all the time, both of which I trying very hard to not need, these temperature swings become pretty normal in my tank too. I hit 82/83 during the late afternoon, and 79 by early morning. I have not noted any real problems with this, though clearly managing to a tighter tolerance would be best. The animals we keep certainly can adapt to some temperature variations, but in the wild these tend to be seasonal changes not daily ones. Though you do see some reefs that get exposed to either very low water or even the air, that clearly can handle extremes.

Thank u guys I will look into other things I'll try to limit the swing by a degree or 2 I'd be happy at a 3 degree swing
