What is a safe/acceptable temp swing in a 14 gallon (10 gallons of water volume)? On Average, My Biocube 14 will swing from ~78.5-~81.0

This seems like a lot to me. But, before I go spending a lot of money onf LED's or a chiller, I figured I woud ask other's opinions.

What kind of corals? That doesnt seem like a big enough variance to warrant serious concern unless you're seeing adverse effects on your corals.

I would not worry about a small swing.

Some people have swings of 5 degrees over 24 hours. The corals have acclimated to these changes and show no signs of stress such as polyp retraction etc.

How do you think that your corals have been reacting to these changes?

FYI a chiller controller is only going to control +/-1deg from setpoint (0.5deg for some higher end models) but not any more then that to provide hysteresis. So even if you add a chiller and you set it to 77, your tank is still going to swing from 76-78. Your swing it totally in an acceptable range.
