I would like to keep seahorses in my 24 gal. nano now that i have the big tank for reef. The 24 gal. temp stays around 81 degrees . Is there any SH that would be happy in this temp?? TIA

Not really. Even tropical seahorses need temperatures at 74 degrees or lower. With very clean water and lots of space, you can keep them at higher temperatures, but I still think 81 would be going too high. My Reidi begin breathing heavy and become sluggish when the temperature hits 76.

There are modifications you can make to the nanao to have it run at appropriate temperatures for seahorses. Just a bit of extra work but well worth it for the reward IMO.

If you are refering to a chiller, i was'nt wanting to spend that much money. But if there are other mods that could be done, please share!

An Iceprobe chiller is not that expensive, less expensive then a hospital tank and the meds. Don't mean to sound mean or harsh at all, a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks. I don't have an extra C note so it's not like I'm hating on you. A pair of good quaility CB seahorses is going to cost you well over that.

Depending on what brand of Premade nano you have depends on the available mods. There are some great nano equipment sites, check the sponsors. The nano forum here on RC is also quite helpful IME with my nano tank (mines a homeade variety reef though). Head over there and ask them for the mods for your tank. They can help.

Sorry I can't be of more help myself other then to direct you to RC's nano fourm.

To reduce heat, look for things like replacing the stock pump for something with less power and that generates less heat (less flow is good for seahorses anyway), swapping out lighting for something with less heat, adding fans, etc. But, you'll probably still need an ice probe chiller or some other chiller, since I don't think the mods will be able to bring your temp down the full 7-8 degrees you'll need on their own.

Thanks for the info,i didnt realize there was a cheaper chiller available. The only ones i seen were 500 and up..ouch And if that was my only option then i just wouldnt have SH. Being i just blew my budget on my new 135 gal..haha Thanks again for the tip.
