Temperate species ID

This picture was taken at the Ne England Aquarium. Can anyone ID it for me? TIA.

no sure what it is, but maybe some sort of grouper or sea bass....

Looks like a sw version of a peacock bass. Very neat looking fish there.

I didn't take the pic My boss did, and wants to ID it....I'm thinking "rock fish" or "rock cod" like we have here off CA.

i would definitely say some rockfish, but i don't know what kind either.
maybe do a search of atlantic rockfish (most state fish and game departments have resources for this-- try maine).

It does look like a Sebastes sp. Do you know if the pic is of an Atlantic or Pacific species? There are very few true Sebastes sp. in the Atlantic so it should be easy to find (assuming its actually a true Sebastes). I have an awesome book by Sebastes somewhere and will take a look if I can find it.

Thanks for the help folks! My boss said it was large, well over a foot. I was guessing it was atlantic since it was at the NE Aquarium, but who knows....
