Temperature Control

I have always had trouble with my heater programs. I've been using a Ranco to control temp for a long time.

I decided to test a used temperature controller from Kubler that I got from work out in a 20-gallon bucket of RODI water. I recalibrated the temp probe and confirmed the reading using digital and float thermometers. I'm trying to get the temp to 78 degrees.

Here's my programming:

1. Fallback OFF
2. If Temp < 78.0 Then ON
3. If Temp > 78.5 Then OFF

The outlet is switched to Auto.

The bucket of water started at an ambient temp of 72 degrees and the heater immediately kicked on but after about an hour the temp probe is reading 84.6. My digital and float thermometers are reading 92 degrees.

The outlet is off but I'm not sure when it shut off because I was doing some tank maintenance.

I am beyond frustrated at this point and could really use some help.

any circulation in the tank?
distance from temp probe to heater?
any settings for hysteresis on that controller?

You really need to verify if the relay is switching properly when the desired temp is reached..
