temperature fluctuations

:strooper: :eek2: Hey everyone, need some help. On my new tank i have 3x175 halides with 2 t-5 actinics. Now that it is getting warmer out, i am already starting to have issues with the tank temp fluctuating. Any suggestions on how to keep the temp more regulated? Was thinking a chiller but that is pricey. Maybe switching out the halides and having all t-5? thanks for the help

that could work, or you could get some type of cooling fan that will help skim the surface of the water and turn on. You could probably time it with a timer, or even get something like a temp controller that would do the same thing..

Hey X,

Usually I recommend getting a cheap clip-on fan from Walmart or Target 1st. Clip it to the back of the tank and have it blow across the surface of the water. That can usually drop the temp a couple of degrees right off the bat. Watch for extra evaporation though. That worked over my 75 with 2 250W Halides for awhile. Once I added VHO's though it wasn't enough and I had to get a chiller. Give it a try. If it doesn't work your only out 10 bucks.

I have a much smaller setup then yours w/ MH lights. I had the same issues last summer above 80 and to much evap for my taste. I bought a smaller chiller that also controllers the heater ckt. I love it! 78~80 ALWAYS. It was a bit pricey but it gives me quite a bit of security in both salinity and temperature.

good luck
