Just curious where people place the tempature probes for their digital controllers? I have mine in the return portion of my sump. Is there a better location???

anywhere you have good water flow.
mines in the return side of the sump also, i get a really steady temp all the time.

Have one in my sump's center "refugium" and one opposite the sump return in my display. Redundancy is the way to go.

We want to control the display temperature, so having it in a flowing area near where it enters the sump is a good spot.

Make sure it is submerged, the heater is in the same area but not too close, as well as away from any other heat or cooling sources and out of direct light.

(I had mine in a seperate area and a fan over the probe area. I shut off the return pump for a while and the heater thought the water was cooler than it was)

Redundant systems with multiple probes is highly recomended.

+1 on redundancy. +1 on a temp alarm for that matter. :)

I have mine in the sump return as well. What you mostly need to watch out for is low water level. Evap takes from the return compartment until top-off or your pump runs dry. If it's a heater with built in temp sensor and the water level gets too low, the heater will try to burn itself up. If the water level is suddenly topped-off, a glass heater will violently implode.
