Having problem with temp swing......you think I need a chiller
38 gal reef
15 gal sump/fuge
342 watt: 1-150 watt HQI; 2-96 watt

Don't know if the high temp is coming from the pumps,
SEN 500ga for the sump..24/7
2 maxi- jet powerheads...24/7
Fuge light...10 hours
342 watt: 1-150 watt HQI; 2-96 watt:
1-150 watt HQI...6 hours
2-96 watt....Dual 460nm/420nm Actinic compact fluorescent bulbs......10 hours

After all the lights are out, except for the fuge temp is 81.2
Mid day with all lights on except for the fuge (off) 84.6
Top off water 13 gal container 75.9

You thing 84.6 is way to high.??

If 84 is your MAX, then it's not so bad. Personally, i like high 70's- low 80's.

Maybe your SEN is putting out too much heat? Judging by the difference between reservoir water and tank's water with only fuge light on?

Yes 84 is after the tank lights have been on all day...My sump temp is also the same....the SEN pump is 30 watts..The reservoir water is covered all day also.....my A/C is set to 76 in my house

Put a 4" fan over your sump, keeps my temp much lower, about 6 degrees worth of cooling from two 4" fans.

Is that a clip on fan? I have been trying to find one of these forever......

My bright lights don't come on until 6pm. By that time my A/C is programmed for 72 degrees for the night. The tanks stay around 78 to 80.

Yes clip on fan Speckled Grouper
I too looked all over town couldnt find one....had to order online think it was around 12 buck with shipping

Personally, I like having a chiller (on the patio). Fans can do a great job holding temps down, but create lots of indoor humidity when used on a large tank. That increase in humidity places an extra cooling load on your AC, so it is using additional electricity. I prefer to extract the heat directly with a chiller.

But, on a 38g you're probably fine with just fans.

check homedepot, i bought mine from there a couple months ago for like 6 bucks i think. its a white clipon ac voltage one.

well worth it. It cooled my nano down from 86 to 78ish.

My temp went down from 84.6 to 80.4 with lights on.....
with the lghts off went from 80.4 to 77.0
just but adding a small fan to the sump area....well that saved me a few hundred bucks

I had one of those clip-on fans over my sump, and one day it just died on me (had it for a couple months). You think the moisture got to it? There didnt seem to be any salt creep on it.

Maybe I just got a bad/defective fan...
