Is 80-81 degrees ok? No matter what I do, I can't get the temperature below that. The heater is set for 78 and the thermostat in my office is about 74. When I get into my office in the morning the tank is still 80 (even after 16 hours with no lights on). Is that temperature range ok?

Fine. Most of us run our reefs around 80F. If you need to bring the temp down, get a fan blowing across the water surface. It will bring the temp down a degree or two. You'll evaporate a bit more so watch the top off. 
that's perfect. I'd get a digital thermometer that records max hi/max low temps and see what you're hitting when no one's there (radio shacks with the outdoor probe is cheap and fine for your purposes). Does your a/c stay on all weekend? In my building, a/c is shut off over the weekends and at night. Just something to think about.
