to the OP, it's more likely that you have a fuldiga worm. i prob spelled that wrong, sorry. still big, terrifying, and predatory, but far more common and less viscious. good luck catching it!
Does anyone remember the vid of the two guys trying to blow up the crab with an M80? The vid was about 10 years ago or so. They tried to kill a pest crab while the crab was still in the tank with fish and coral. The tank didn't break (I don't know how it didn't). But they never said anything about fish death after the explosion. So, don't try the M80 method.
They are excellent hiders. They hide in rocks and under substrate and usually only come out to hunt at night. I recall a large public aquarium that was loosing fish and corals. They suspected a predator of some type but could not locate it so they dismantled the entire tank rock by rock and located a large eunicid worm. I do recall the worm being several feet in length. And in their case, I do believe that they gave the worm it's own tank to study it.
