I use Salifert Calcium and Alkalinity tests. They are recognized as being accurate and easy to use. I agree.
I use Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Saltwater Master liquid test kit for PH and nitrate.
Those are the only tests I use. If you do frequent periodic water changes and practice good husbandry techniques you probably don't need any other test until you get really advanced.
I will be starting a new 90 tomorrow and I suppose I will eventually need to upgrade to a Pinpoint PH monitor and I want to get a digital thermometer as well.
