test kits

Hanna checkers are the most accurate, but IMO Salifert, Red Sea & Giesemann are good enough for most hobbyist's needs.

Hanna checker for phosphate and alkalinity. Their calcium is hard to use and get accurate, repeatable results. For nitrates and magnesium I use salifert and for calcium I use Red Sea.

Once your tank is cycled you won’t test for ammonia or nitrite. If you need those tests I would just get the cheap API ones. I haven’t used kit to check PH in years.

Alk : lamotte > hanna checker > salifert = red sea > api
Ca : lamotte > salifert > rad sea > api > hanna checker
Mg : salifert > red sea > api
PO4 : Hanna P url > hanna PO4 lr > red sea
NO3 : lamotte > red sea > salifert > api
NO2, NH4 : salifert = red sea > api
* better > worse
