How many of you actually test your new batch of saltwater, and then adjust your tank to that water mixed?
What I do is this.
I make a batch of 35 gallons of water (I do a 35 gallon water change, once a month, out of my 350 gallon system)
I test all of its parameters.
Ca, Alk, Mag, Ph (which usually always ends at the same pH as my DT), salinity nitrate, and PO4.
I do this about a week before its time to do a water change. I then adjust my tank over the next week to get to the closest possible parameters as the new water.
I dose 14 mls of Reef Grow bromide and strontium into the new water (can't really test for bromide, but I dose it in my main system, so I dose it in the new water)
As soon as everything is as close as possible, I do the water change.
Most of the time, the old water and new water is pretty spot on, and I don't have to do any dosing to the tank to get it to match. Every once in awhle the MAG will be off some.
We gotta get away from "water changes" are the key to healthy system..
No! STABILITY is the key to a long, healthy system.
