Text poll - Product Reviews on slashclub.org

I have created a forum for Product Reviews on the slashclub.org site and placed it under the "Members Only" area for the time being.

I would like to hear from SLASH MEMBERS ONLY as to whether we should keep it in the members only area or open it up for access by everyone.

I like the idea of having it open to everyone but I also realize that the members are paying for the site. Because the site is funded by those who chose to become members, I think it should be a group decision.

If you are a member, please give us a response. We will abide by what is decided here.

One other thing.....should we make sub-forums for various components like lighting, skimmers, controllers, etc.?

I don't want to be a control freak but I think that having some structure would increase the value without becoming too much work that it prevents people from participating. If we had a basic template of a fill in the blanks, I think that would help people to complete the reviews.

A few things that come to mind from reading reviews on places like AMazon and such are:
What does the product promise?
How well does it achieve those goals?
Is it a good value? for whom?
Rating in 1 out of 10 stars

Also describing the use or application. A particular power head may work great in a low calcium environment but may get bunched up by coraline or calk buildups so having a few things about the user's testing environment would be nice.

Maybe have a followup at the end where you can add updates of how it worked over time and if the manufacturer supports it when there are problems.

My vote would be to initially leave it open but if it becomes a good information source, move it to the members section to inspire folks to join.

Just my 2 cents.

My son and I would be glad to assist folks to follow up to ensure the reviews are objective.. or at least with minimal editorial comment.

I think this is a good idea as well. I agree with Fazgood that there should be a template. Possibly make a stick with the template details. I think by making it public it can show that SLASH has knowledgeable members and may be a good place to join and get advice. However it works out it is a good idear.

Excellent and to the point.
