Thank goodness for GFCI's!

This morning while feeding, I pulled a bonehead move. I stopped paying attention while squirting brine shrimp into the tank and sprayed the wall behind the tank. I am sure most of you have at least one electrical outlet directly behind your tank too. Anyway, the water ran strait down to the outlet. I mean like the outlet had a bullseye painted on it. I couldn't do this again if I tried. Next thing you know, the GFCI did its thing, and the lights went dark. Me being a dummy, had to look around thinking my ballast had went bad or something that wasn't my fault :) But, as always, I am to blame. I would hate to think what might have happened if I hadn't paid attention to everyones preaching about GFCI's. As for me, I am a believer, and will most likely be changing out all of my outlets soon.

You are right.
We consider the GFI power system a standard part of each set-up.
We used to buy the outlets and box to make them at a material cost of $51.00. Now we buy the Stanley GFI power strip from the Home Depot for $29.95. I recommend it to anyone with an aquarium.
Most manufacturers require GFI in the warranty info.

Think about it.....burn your house down or spend $29.95.
