First of all, I want to thank everyone here for all there help in making my reef tank a real joy to have. I have attached a picture of the 10 month old reef.

So my next adventure is possibly a reactor to improve my water quality even more. My nitrates are zero. I do have some phosphates though. It's less than .25 but there are still there. I have a Aquatop cf300 canister filter that I have replaced with a aqueon70 HOB filter for my 37 gallon tall reef.

I have read a lot about reactors but am not sure how to use them. I am considering using my canister filter as a reactor but don't understand how.

Any input would be totally appreciated. Thanks for all you do!!

I think a reactor is basically a canister filter with just one chamber.
I have a two little fishes reactor that just has an input and an exit for water. You put carbon or whatever inside it and the water flows through it.

You can do the same thing with a canister filter, but you might have to put a valve to slow down the flow in one of the lines.
My TLF reactor has a valve on the exit line.

If you run GFO you want to let it barely bubble on the surface. I am using my TLF with carbon, and I packed it tight so it does not grind itself to dust. I am running my flow wide open through it like this.
