Thanks to the Movers!

Just wanted to say thanks to all who helped move the 300g yesterday--it is much appreciated! Trey, John, Randy, Don, Mel, Brent, Scott...well, EvilMel didn't do any heavy-lifting, although she did laugh when we chipped the stand; but I guess since I chipped hers it's ok :)

I think it went pretty well; with minimal damage to houses, vehicles, aquarium equipment, and people...Don and I probaby both have some carpet work to do, but that's how it goes with these projects.

All the fish/rock/inverts are in a temporary 150g rubbermaid stock tank in the office, but they look good, and all of them ate well this morning (gave nori to the three tangs and enriched brine to the smaller fish). It's a neat set-up actually since it's like a lagoon and the fish can be seen from above. Hopefully we'll get the tank up by the week of the 5th.

Thanks guys!

Matt

don never came & got me... he said he would be there in 30 mins but never showed up... did everything go ok?

Don forgot untill the last minute... Then we figured we'd give the old heeve ho with just the seven of us... I think we managed alright... :)

Thanks for the Pizza Matt!!!!!!!! :D Oh, and that damn game was rigged...

Yep...I completely stood there like a helpless friggin' girl. But in my defense...I'm used to being nearly as strong as one of the guys until I hurt my back last year. Now...helpless girl it is!

Thanks for the pizza Matt...I totally forgot to say that at the time. I really appreciate it.

It wasnt nearly as heavy going out as it was going in. Dont go there....

So, anyone have any sand to help establish my new nano? (I call it a nano)

I am still feeling a little thin from that last heave ho. I went through a Matt-sized opening...

Sorry I couldn't help at the other end, Matt -- my wife would have killed me if I didn't get the yard finished before sundown. :)

 well, it's almost the 5th, but a couple months late. The fish seem much happier now that they aren't in the rubbermaid tub. Still lots to do (and more fish to add :) ) but it's got water in it:

dimensions are lost with that tank and those rocks. The regal is what; 5" or so... What gives with the low water conditions? Pumps off for pics?

Yeah, that's a big regal, hard to get an idea of the size. I think we've got a picture somewhere with a person next to it...

Overflows aren't plumbed yet, just lights, heaters, and powerheads for now

Yea, the fish look kinda tiny in such a big tank  I really like the rockwork and it being real open also, gives them plenty of swimming room. Now if only your tangs will tolerate a copper band butterfly. That is what I would love to have again but my PBT killed my last one within a week who had been there a year longer than him :(.
Is this going to be a reef?

Looks a bit off level to me. If so, I'd be concerned in a tank of this size. Otherwise, coming along nicely.

Dave

Wow, took you guys no time at all to set that up considering it was full of parts last Sunday!!!!!!! Looks good, but I'm with Dave about the whole levelling issue... You could shim it up... lol ;) Good luck!!!!!!!

Thanks Angela, I don't think it'll be much of a reef with the fish-load we have planned, but maybe a few softies. The PBT is smaller than most of the other fish going in there, so hopefully it will behave ;)

There is a 3/4" difference between the left and right side, so we may have to drain it and shim before it gets plumbed. On a small tank I don't think it would be as noticeable, but with 8' of tank, you notice that slanted waterline pretty fast!

Glasscages web page says be sure its level but Tom told me it was not a problem as long as the tank itself sat compleatly flat and level on the stand. I hope so anyways, mine has about a 1/2 inch fall left to right! :eek2:
I talked on the phone with him about it because leveling on carpet was going to be a PAIN. And its not like one person could just pick up the tank corner so you could shove a shim under it. Lets hope for my den and livestocks sake he was telling me the truth!

OH!!!!!! So you don't have it plumbed yet... I was amazed at how fast you guys got it set up... Well, I still am, but its not quite as much of an insurmountable task since it isn't plumbed yet... ;) It looks better though, of course I did kind of like the whole rubbermaid setup too... :D Too bad the longnose hawk lost his little perch...

The longnose hawk has a new perch now; he got moved to a 30g so the peppermint shrimp team could start working ;)

Tom told me it was not a problem as long as the tank itself sat compleatly flat and level on the stand.

After thinking about it today, I think we may actually leave it. Unless we made a giant shim with an 8' sheet of plywood cut from 3/8" down to nothing (and I don't know how to do that!), we will put stress on the stand, which could put stress on the glass if the stand "gives" at all. As it is now, the stand sat firmly on the floor (before the tank was on), and the tank sits squarely on the stand, so it may be better to leave it alone. The trim will still hide most of the waterline. The right overflow won't get as much water, but we're not planning to put a ton of water down them anyway, so it should work out ok. The 125g in the GH is the same way

I think we're going to need an RK2 just for this tank, that way we can keep "Orby" (batfish), "Pete" (puffer), "Elvis" (naso), a sailfin, another hippo and yellow, a half-moon angel, a pair of clowns, etc etc without water quality problems (the goal here is to move all of the big fish out of the house :) ). Donny stole the MRC for his 75 anyway...

If you want to shim it buy some door shims and just use 3/4" worth on the low side and step down (use less shims) every 6" or so. That's the way I've done my last 2 tanks and it has worked well....of course they aren't huge:p
