"That place on Piner rd" has HORRIBLE management.

I'm not normally one to complain about isolated incidents in retail cause I know how hard it is to keep everyone happy all the time. However this place has some management that carries a bad attitude about helping customers out unless it's a simple sale, and even then it's hit or miss. It's quite unfortunate since there's a few people there who are present to deal with.

Last week my girlfriend purchased me a tank as a present and after telling them she wanted a saltwater tank with a stand I could put things in, they recommended a 50g long tank that wasn't drilled, no overflows, not even any hob equipment. No real big deal, bad advice is common from this place. They also forced her to pick it up before Xmas as they didn't want it on their floor anymore, hence the early Xmas present. So I figured I would just return it. My girlfriend even commented that she thought they were rude, and chris(who I believe is one of the managers) had a bad attitude and didn't seem like he wanted to help her.

So I take the tank back, and good old Chris is brought out from the back to approve the return, and his reaction to me returning the tank was just shy of a little girl kicking her feet cause mommy wouldn't buy her lipstick. All over a $350 tank that was coming back due to bad advice from their staff.

Flashback three weeks ago when I purchased a fish and I asked what their policy was if it didn't workout in my tank, and was told that it's fully refundable within seven days, and they would give 1/3 credit after that.. So I decided to break down my pico and return the fish, but when I get there I'm told they aren't taking anything in for credit, and they had no answers to why, just that they wouldn't do it. Obviously not the fault of the employee delivering the message, but disappointing to hear they are going back in their word and stated policy.

These aren't the first times I've had issues with their customer service, or lack their of. Fairly disappointing to deal with a retail business that really has no interest in helping people.

I hear horror stories like that a lot now at my work of very bad and rude customer service. I even had a lady come in one time and tell me she used to work there and she heard the manager tell one of the tank maintenance guys to make the customers tank have a big crash that would cost him thousands just to restart again just because they did not like him. Now, I don't know if this is true or not but I would have found out who that customer was and told him personally what they where planning on doing.

When people go into my work and ask about saltwater related things that we don't sell i either send them to Fish Pros or if they are willing to drive a bit longer down to Jofish.

I don't like feeding into rumors but IMO people don't start them when they are properly taken care of buy the employees.

I refuse to shop there. My grandfather went in to try and buy a tank and they tried to sell him a small 40 gallon tank. This is no big deal but they tried to sell him equipment that is used on 200 gallon tanks just to make extra money.
