That time of year... MAINTAIN YOUR AC UNITS!

FYI: if your cap calls for 370VAC, you can use the 440VAC, it is heavier duty than the 370 for not much more. ( I've heard this from 2 reputable sources )

parts shipped today! I guess I'll be working this weekend.

glad to see you took my advice Pete

the manufactors and crappy service techs love those 370vac caps.....it's garunteed that they will be back within a few years

you people have questions..feel free to ask....being challenged is what has kept me in the AC world for this long

working for myself is keeping me busy...but i like this site and this community alot ...you guys have helped me...i would like a chance to help you guys out.

especially considering how shady alot of contractors are out there

and if i get a chance to earn ur business even better :)

PS: to those that have my 602 number ....i left sprint and wasen't able to keep that line....back to a single phone again..pm me if you want it

Had mine serviced last summer, because it died on me. Not a fun thing to deal with, stressing about loosing all my corals, being in a hot house for a few days sucks and it is $$$ to fix a AC unit. So I am good to go this summer. Service your AC before it is too late and replace filters each month.

I'm an hvac tech in South Carolina for the last two years and 15 years in Maryland. Since working here in Sc ,the number 1 problem I see on 90% of the calls I go on is undersized duct and flex spider systems. It is truly sad. Undersized duct is a system killer. If anyone is trying to sell you a high seer system ask them if your duct is sized for it. if it is not sized properly the energy saving high seer unit could cost you more monthly due to variable speed fans ramping all the way up.
When done properly the savings of a new unit could be substantial without the worry of constant breakdowns. I install American Standard equipment because I believe in the product.

Just throwing this out there:

Capacitor replacement is generally free under warranty of an AC unit, so if you have yours still under warranty (mine is ten years) you can always take advantage of that like I do.

I just request during my annual inspection/maintenance to keep my AC under warranty that they replace my cap around may of each year.

Keeping my house at 72 all year around in Phoenix means my capacitor goes out without fail every year :D

(I may or may not have been one of those people that lost their tank due to an AC unit blowing out about five years ago. Never again.)

Awesome, informative post, thank you for it!

Iphis

Capacitors fail due to now having Castor oil in place of the pcb's that kept so many alive for so long. Ive got 40 year old units with original capacitors.
