Thawing Frozen food

What is the best way to thaw frozen food? Does it matter if I use water from my aquarium or can I use freshwater? Should the water be cold or hot(does it affect the nutritional value?)? After I strain the the frozen food, can I put it in a zip lock bag and add a couple of drops of selcon and store in the refrigerator ? Can I do this in the morining and leave it refrigerated until the evening when I do my second feeding?

I use a shot glass with RO/DI or tank water. Let it thaw, then use a syringe to suck up the mysis/brine and not the water. I feed once the food has melted, I never save it. ;)

You can let it sit on the fridge for 8hrs... That won't be a problem especially if you have Selcon in there b/c it has a ton of vitamin C that will keep it from spoiling as fast. You could probably keep it a few days if needed. My LFS guy makes a batch of Selcon soaked food and uses it all week.

Any water temp should be fine... as long as it isnt HOT.
You can also use distilled, RODI, or salt. The TDS won't make a big difference since there is so little volume.

everything you said sounds fine but jsut don't use warm water (rotts it out) or tap water. i just use a little cup with tank water. formula 1 and 2 are pretty messy...so what i do with those is cut it up into little bite size pieces with a knife and just dump it in like that.

I break off the size I want to feed and thaw it in a shot glass with tank water. Once it is thawed, I break off pieces or dump the mysis in the tank.

Thanks for the responses. When using selcon or Kent Zoe Marine, how much should I add to 1 cube of frozen food such as Ocean Nutrition Formula 2 and their Spirulina forumla.

I put the next days feedings into a shot glass that has NO SOAP on it whatsoever. I let the frozen food thaw then drain (decanteur) the "juice" to rid excess phosphates. When done, I dose with 3 drops of Kent Extreme Garlic and put into the frig for next day's twice daily feedings.

I use tank water to mix up the food and get it suspended so it can be poured easily into the tank at feeding time.
