the 6 liner from hell

OK i have had other wrasse before, including a 6-line. But this is one bad mo-fo...he is terrorizing my clown. any advice?

Tank is a 20L with coral and LR up the wazzooo. Also of note, the two have coexisted peacefully (until now) for the past 3 months.

help?

If I were you, I would pull it, they have been known to kill many fish.

No hope IMO ... what he is cannot be changed.

Trap him with a water bottle trap ... worked on a buddies 6-line. Cut neck off a bottle turn it around to make a funnel into a cylinder drop a thing of shrimp and voila Trap!

I had a "peaceful" box fish ... until he chased every fish into a corner.

They can be hit or miss, I've kept several over the years without incident. However, my last one was a swine and killed the female of a pair of Ocellaris clowns. Also tried to terrorize a coralbeauty. Fortunately the coral beauty just ignored the attention.

Was not quite as sad as I should have been when I found the sixline had gone carpet surfing one night. Shan't be buying one again.

What if...

I try to get a couple other fish in there? it is only the two in there now. What if i added a couple roommies to attempt to patch up their differences? it worked with my african cichlids back in the day...think it would now?

they arent only called box fish because they look like a box, they also tend to "box" fish into corners......didnt you know that??? :lol:

Well 1st of all what kind of other fish?

... However IMO I really don't think it'll help because he's set his turf up already and adding more fish won't really reset the order of fish. Kinda sucks because there are 6 Lines out there that are actually peaceful and spend most of their day busy looking for food in your LR and don't bother anything else.

Seems to me you just stumbled on to a grumpy fish :uzi: :fish1:

As Chocolateblnt says, I wouldn't try adding a new fish. It's his manor now and he will not shy away from harrassing any new fish you introduce. If you really want to keep him you will have to remove him and then introduce the new fish. Give them a few days and then put him back in i.e. so that he's the last addition.

Having said that, if you can catch him, might as well return him tothe lfs and get something else!

ok he is out today i think...hopefully if i can trap him. Smart little bigger though. i will keep you update.


on a different note, any suggestion for a replacement? I like blennies, but which ones!? Bicolr? maybe a firefish too?

What are you feeding him....mine will start to get a little hostile toward other tank mates when he hasn't been gettting enough fresh meat....like if all I've feed the tank for a couple of days is flake food....then I give him some mysis, and he calms down.

hmmm guilty as charged and good point! i will try that. honestly i can say that these are my favorite of all the nano fish....their personality and movements are unparallel. I dont want to have to lose him...but what the girlfriend says goes...we all need to choose our battles, and this one is not worth is...
