Has anyone ever used or use their maintenance cleaner?

Just from doing some reading and watching about it, it isn't the cure for maintenance. It just basically cleans the water and appears to be better for FW b/c you can't clean the sand with it (it voids the warranty). Also, your cleaning the water with what doesn't appear to be a "miracle Cleaner" so you still have to take out the old water and replace with new synthetic or rodi water.

any other opinions on this?

You are always going to have to do water changes in a reef aquarium,
not only dose it refresh the old dirty water with new clean water but it replaces trace elements and natural buffers.

It seems to me that it is just a canister filter with a gravel cleaner instead of water intake. It will not eliminate the need for water changes because as Twz said the elements need to be replaced.
