the Aquarium Gods' miserable joke

I'm pretty sure the Aquarium Gods just sit around and laugh at me when I try to get parts for a plumbing project. No matter how well I plan it out or how many trips I make to Lowes, I never have all the parts I need. I'm always short SOMETHING. *sigh*

Nice joke, Aquarium Gods... real funny.

Anyways...

I'm redoing the return plumbing on my system due to a small but annoying leak. I'm using all vinyl hose and barb fittings.

Sorry for the bad pic, sketchup isn't working for some reason.

Would you suggest ball valves at location A or location B? Either, Neither, or Both?

Unless you are placing a union somewhere for dismantling I would propose a combo ball valve true union at B so you can take your pump off. Also if you are looking to control flow the gate valves are better ime.

Unless you see the need to close down the flow from your pump why bother? For service, the sump should be designed to handle the back flow, a plug for the sump bulkhead is all that is needed for an external pump.

withall the other ball valves i wouldnt bother. Personally I hate ball valves I never ran them at all they are more of a pain in the butt than worth although I never tapped into my return pumps for reactors etc I always had separate pumps.
