okay what variety of purple plating monti has the best color? OR how do I get the best color and growth from the current monti?

Which purple plating monti do you have?

In my experience it takes plenty of light to color up any purple monti, plating or Digitata. I have the Tyree Idaho Grape and another unnamed one. The Idaho grape is a nice lavender color and the other one is darker but has blue polyps. I still like the Idaho grape better.

Sorry if you've seen this picture before, the Idaho Grape is in this shot. LED lighting, 400 watts of Sunbrites, placement is mid-level, about 250 PAR as measued with an Apogee meter.

I like that green one!!!! Holy crap!!! I honestly don't know what kind I have. This is what it looks like

I was told moderate light gives you the best colors in montis

Thanks! Thats another old school Tyree coral, he called it montipora aquituberculata.
There are alot of neon green plating montis but the nodule growth make it more desirable to me.
