Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of moving and since I have to take my tank down I want to change my pump.

Currently, I have Dolphin ampmaster 3600 on my system. Since this "old school" what is a better replacement?

The pump is working great I jsut want to see my options........

What ever happend to Iwaki? Are sequence pumps better? A few years ago that is what everyone would have said.

I think it might be prudent to define "best". Do you mean most powerful, lowest current draw, longest lived, easiest to maintain, etc. Best might not be least expensive or most readily available. I think there might be a case for the Red Dragon if you could get your hands on one. Maybe gallons/hour/amp is a good measure. Or, maybe g/h/$ is even better.
I, for one, don't really know what best means.

for larger tanks if you look at flow vs wattage the seq is better

So overall why are they better then dolphin pumps?
for a while dolphin was having a seal problem. they now use a different seal (saltwater)

Red Dragons are nice, but I would still prefer Sequence for servicability and good value in a very well built pump.

Also, for your "breakage" factor, it seems sequence are more readily stocked in many places. Being able to acquire parts and/or a whole new pump in a hurry should be considered as well, unless you're purchasing backups too.

as far as noise goes, I have not seen a Red Dragon in operation but I hear they are very quiet. My Hammerhead is very quiet and cannot be heard over the other equipment in my tank room. If I shut everything off but it, I can just hear a low hum.

i have total 4 Sequence 4300 and 2 5800, they are so quiet that my 4 eheim skimmer pumps is louder then the sequence. i have to touch the sequence pumps just to make sure they are on.

I use a Dart that has treated me very well. I did have a bearing go out 1 year in and they sent me a loaner pump free of charge (I did have to pay to ship it back) and repaired my pump free. Also very quiet. Good pump.
