The Big water test day .........

Ok so it took me about a year to finally get to this day but its here and of course i have a few questions.

My tank is a 75 gallon

I went with the glass holes oveflow with the 1 1/2 drain and for my return i have the eheim 1260 pump. Just put the water in the tank to test and so far no leaks and i even PASSED the power outage test:eek1:. BUt i have to choke the return line down in half to get the water levels right in the sump.
Also when i turn the skimmer on then i even have to choke it down more

1) Is this going to hurt my eheim pump? Am i doing something wrong?

Also the water running in the drain line is loud as he**,its not the overflow box making the noise its just the water flowing down the drain thats so loud.
Anything i can do here?

I also have some vertex skimmer questions but i think there is a thread somewhere for those i will try to find.

Thanks

I don't know about throttling back eheim pumps, but I think its ok as long as you do it on the out side. Never on the feed to the pump side.

A picture would be very helpful with your overflow problem. How is it plumbed, what size...stuff like that.

What did you want to know about the skimmer?

Thanks for the reply Julie . I'll try to post dome pics
my skimmer question is it don't look like I'm getting enough bubbles. I'm new to skimmers so I'm going by some videos that I've seen on here.
I'm not home right this sec so I'll post some pics later
thanks

Hi, as far as not getting enough bubbles in your Vertex try two things: first make sure your venturi intake is clean, second unhook air hose from a silencer on the pipe, that L shaped connector does not allow enough air to get pulled into skimmer.I have Vertex skimmer and after doing this works great. You should not see through skimmer body when it's on, should look milky white with small bubbles in the body

I purchased this used I think it's the one without the cap and silencer maybe the gen 1. The pump runs but I just can't get that milk look

If its in new water its not going to look like it will on an established tank. Give it time.

Did you use pvc on your drains? If so, what size?

A better solution, I think, would be to tee off the pump outlet, with one tee outlet going to your valve and the other outlet just running back into the sump. That way, the pump's motor is not restricted, but you can still control the flow back into the tank.

Drained all the test water out and now I'm starting to refill. Might start a build thread with some pics.
