I was in denial for a while but now I've seen this little ba$tard nipping at all my SPS poor little polyps all day. I'm starting to lose my Bali slimer alon with a couple others. He seem to like the nice juicy fat polyps as opposed to the long thready milli polyps. Anyway, he's gotta go. Needless to say, my tank's loaded with rock and corals. What have you all found to be useful to get these fish caught? Thanks.

Hey Doc,

You can cut the top off a large plastic soda bottle...put in the lil' devil's favorite food invert the top so the mouth goes into the body of the bottle first. Flame can get in but can't get out. If all elsa fails a friend of mine went to the LFS with a similar problem. They gave him a tiny fish hook and some fish line. He baited with the favorite food and actually fished for the fish he was after. Caught it removed the fish and took it back to the store where it still resides one month later.
Good Luck!

it pis*es me off how some are nippers while others are not. i want a flame bad but keep hearing stories like this while others have perfectly behaved flames.

Docreefer do u have ALOT of LR? any algae on LR for it?

I had a flame angel until about 6 months ago. He was great, he never nipped any of my coral. However, he did become very territorial and started going after the fish that were put in the tank BEFORE him. The Flame went after my full grown Pajama Cardinal and did some damage. I had to take out the Cardinal and QT until he was better. Needless to say, I sold the flame. It's hit or miss with these guys. I recently purchased a Flameback Angel, I hope I have better luck with him.

I caught one in a stocked 125 using a small mirror. If the fish is territorial at all, it will try and fight it's reflection. keep the mirror near the surface, mine was so distracted by it's reflection, it didn't even notice the net. took less than 3 minutes

In an old tank I had a mantis shrimp hitchhike in on some live rock. In my efforts to catch it, I bought a mantis shrimp trap. That never succeeded in catching it, but I did catch my mandarin goby (twice) and my flame angel in it. I finally had to pull the rock the shrimp was in and run hot water over it in my tub to get it out and kill it. Ruined the rock, but hey, no more mantis shrimp.
