You might try shorten whole rigid tube/propeller assembly as bit and see if it would help.

I have no problems turning a 1.75" Dumas prop with the MJ1200 even a MJ900. How old is that MJ1200? Possibly the motor has worn out a bit and doesn't have as much horse power? Not sure...

The Maxijet is about 3 years old I think. I have another one the same age in my tank right now that I will give a try. It looks like the magnet is centered and not touching the inside of the housing. I'm wondering if the carbon fiber rod is flexing more than the steel one did and causing the magnet to rub against the side. It just sounds funny, like something is rubbing/rattling, when I run it for brief periods out of the water. When I run it about 3/4 submerged it really runs well, but fully submerged stalls out.

Thanks again for the well documented Mod. I hope I can get this issue worked out.

Regards,
Mike

AH... If it's rattling and sounds like it's rubbing, chances are your impeller is off centered. Try re-centering the cross brace while the powerhead is plugged in outside the tank. Listen and see where is quietest, mark the spot and glue it down. It would take a tremendous amount of force and be very difficult to bend the carbon fiber so I don't think that's the issue here.
Do try putting in a couple more inlet slots as well.

is any one up to making me one/2 of the mods? for a price. i am kind of DIY illiterate and dont really have the equipment necesary

You hvae a 24 g flat back hex, I don't think you're going to need much more in terms of flow than that SEIO 620 to be honest. If you still wanted a maxi-mod, I would recommend a MJ400 or MJ600 at most.

email this guy.... Lutz439@zoominternet.net

he is making them....nice from the pics I have seen.
I just received two from Matt, he said they would work great on a wavemaker but half the time they start up they go backwards, and loud. I had to remove them, my fish were going to be chopped up if I didn't. I emailed him a few days ago but no response back and he shut down his PM. Hate to have to do a charge back.

anyone else have this problem? using a MJ900.

He wouldn't have this problem of reverse spinning if he had made a stopper in the first place. Mine starts up the the right way every time and is quiet. There will always be some humming because of the propeller but nothing you would notice IMO.

IF you post a photo of this I can probably tell you how to make a stopper to prevent the reverse spinning.

i thought his design has a built in stopper.

also he got kicked off of RC for selling these things, doesnt mean he is a dead beat or anything like that. i emailed him the other day regarding prices and received a responce the next day.

Yes I heard he had a stopper built in into the impeller/propeller but from what people have been saying is that it doesn't work.

Not sure how you can even have a stopper built in onto the impeller to stop the reverse spinning.

Also... The way I heard it was that he got booted from RC not because he was selling them but that he was doing on the forum by posting on the threads which is strictly prohibited. RC is pretty strict about stuff like that.

i was thinking of gettin the MJ in place of the sieo. i havnt bought most of my equipment yet. still planing. lol

OK if you haven't bought the SEIO 620 then I would suggest a MJ400 or MJ600 for this mod instead. They work much better than SEIO's Others here can vouche for that :)

Ive never had a Seio but Ive had the same 2 MJ900's for the past 4 years.
The prop Mod by dhnguyen is awesome. With just 1 NITRO prop...size??) within the first week Iam seeing some amazing results. Its turning over 17 gal of water in a 29gal with 50lbs of LR @ 1100 -1300gph. In the REAL world, this chunk of reef would get 10-15k an hour of flow. Consider that.
Ive read other posts in here where 1 guy was saying with 2 NITRO props @ 1.75 on one MJ900 and what ever the pitch was, I dont remember, he says he is getting around 1800 gph with a MJ900.
Iam considering having the 2nd one done, but put them on timers...Eh dhnguyen????

Figure your actual REAL gallon amount here>>
in left side menu go to 'Claculators', then 'Tank Water Volume' scroll down

http://www.garf.org/

Just get a couple MJ's of what ever size and get them...or just 1....modified by dhnguyen ;-) His are already tested before he sends them back.

This mod is great ...i'm going to order the stuff to do it soon. I just wish i could DIY a better bracket to attach that MJ to the tank
