Great thread!!!Dhnguyen, if this works well, I'll be in debted to you as I just came across this thread while I was searching for vendors to buy a pair of tunzes and a controller ($884!). I'm going to try it out on one of my mj 1200s (for $12!). Did the recommended length of the housing change since the original version? I thought someone mentioned this but had not seen it confirmed. This thread is now 63 pages long so forgive me if I missed that part. Also there's little doubt about the estimated gph from the mod but how does the quality of flow compare to the tunze - i.e. tunze reputedly gives broad, gentler flow as compared to the jet stream effect from a typical powerhead?

mine was working good but the carbon rod started to spin and wore out the acyrlic bracing.. and started making noise.. the 1200 was dead quite before that.. gotta redo the housing i think..

The length of the housing has shortened some since the original thread. This after I noticed that it really didn't make any difference in the flow whether the housing was longer or shorter. The flow is also much wider and more dispursed if the housing is shorted too. I do mine about 2 inches in length.

The flow from this mod is indeed very wide and dispursed similarly to the Tunze.

I'll let the others chime in on their own experiences.

Thank you so much hahnmeister ;)

It is very appreciated, you offering to take your time out for myself & others ppl like your self make the hobby worth while, give yourself a pat on the back from me ;)

Those links are what I needed, I wondered why you guy's were getting it so easy with parts lol, that router attachment is just what the doctor ordered!

I have been messing around ever since, I believe you are on the right track with using a fixed shaft pump!, as I spent half the day trying to get the other one working today, then this evening I looked through my old pumps pile & came up with a winner (Micro jet MC320), 1hr later & I have a working prop & shaft Yippee :), yet to sort out a guard as I have no pipework to fit it.

This is the answer to you lot with Nano tanks for sure (see my previous link to thread, pic's added )

Not bad,2 years reading the threads & then 24 hrs to make 2'ish

My old Hagen 802 looks prime suspect for the next one (think I may be over doing it with the guard?, hope I can find a big enough prop lol

The 1.5" SCH80 pipe has an ID that is aan exact perfect fit for the Maxijet impeller port hole and this keeps the housing from moving around and making the nimpeller off centered.

Is there an updated instruction page that has all the enhancements you have made? I have read the original DIY page and noticed you said here you changed the length of the housing. Because this thread is so huge, I'm afraid I may have missed some other changes you have made. If not, can you summarize the specifics for the original instructions as they are now?

Thanks

huh.. mine keeps jumping back and forth. and the magnet in and out... maybe its out of center.. gotta rebuild the housing.. si there a difference between the 1200 and 900 if useing the 1.75 prop?

we need to figure out where to get ceramic shaft that diameter but longer so this conversion dont ware out the impellors so fast. i think the carbon fiber si not a good choice for a shaft because it will wear out the insides of the impellor. any ideas guys? does anyone have the actual diameter of the maxjet ceramic shafts?

The propeller jumping back and forth can be due to one of two things.

1. You don't have enough inlet slots or holes.
2. The propeller is too large for the pump. I found that some MJ900's (especially older ones) have a porblem spinning the 1.75" Dumas without help.

this is a 1200...only does it when i hold the carbon fiber rod still.. if i let it spin it doesnt do it. but it wobbles out the hole.. should i get 1200's for the 1.75 or the 900's??

Wobbling out the hole sounds like the hole in the cross brace is too large for the CF rod? Try redoing the cross brase so that the hole is only drilled through halfway?

thats what i plan to do.. and more holes and slots just orderd a dremel tool so i will wait for that and then try a new housing again.. i think on ebay i will order two more 1200's for my new tank..

The maxi jets come with SS shaft's, I have used Titanium rod so as to make sure the shaft wont wear out.

Dhnguyen,
Thanks for the reply. One more question regarding the stopper, From your gallery photos looks like it should be about 1/4 the length of the crossbar, correct?
