Yep, you could seal it with [Milliput] it's a epoxy putty, I can send you some if it's not available there ;) (it's almost the same thing as the D&D reef putty at a fraction of the cost)
I'm not sure what you have in mind here.. that stuff will let the shaft spin freely? Or are you envisioning potting the whole motor or what..?

Cool little pump but at 5w its gonna be tough to make it compete with the maxijets. Depending on its size it might be perfect for controllable flow in small tanks. Of course designing a controller for it will be another DIY project altogether.

True. It would be good for spinning smaller props (Octura 1435 , smaller Dumas, and Nitro Hammer)

Not sure if I can justify the $50 pice tag for one just to turn around and mod it though.

How snugly does the pen fit into the 6mm rod? I just tried a pen, and it seems to be about 1/4"ID. I bet you guys have metric pens too!

That is disappointing if it is a case of an oversized propeller. I am using the Great Planes 1 1/2" prop. Its decent sized, but I would think that both a MJ900 and an AC401 could handle it. Could it be something else?

EDIT: I swapped out the impeller/mag assembly in the AC401 to a 801, and it still only spun backwards. However, it was strong enough to fully eject the impeller from the pump body.

It depends on the pen, you will just have to go to your local stationers with junior hacksaw in hand like I did:lol:

Got me stumped about the constant back starting m8:confused: hopefully the reverse props should work in your favor, I still think it's due to them being over sized for the pumps, are the pumps old or new? maybe a bit worn out.

PS just updated the pics in my gallery, with 802 prop shots "revised" & the MJ 1200 I just got working with pic's off all parts.

What do you think guy's at my first attempt at a "Maxi Jet" mod lol

wsc -.-

Yes, I thought you ment you wanted to encase the entire housing:confused:

Frunkster, I just tried running the mod with a small 1.25" (nitro hammer) prop, and it never ran forward either. I'm baffled by this. Shoot, I made my first maxi-jet mod over two years ago, and it worked better than what I am making now. Apparently I am getting WORSE at this as time goes by. :p

I think wsc had a direct-drive pump in mind.

Thanks D

It's so long due to having to be siliconed in to the wier (grommet/removable style "hopefully") & to direct the flow in to more of a focust channel as it will have to travel 6'+, I also intend to add fin's at the front to aid the focus of the flow like on the CS pump I did.

I do hope this underflow system proves effective after all the hard work implementing the 3 pump mod's for it have been lol.

EJ

GET SOME REVERSE PROPS!!! as I have no idea now, 2 years experience eh, a matured Maxie moder indeedie ha ha ha.

I feel for you Re- finding parts that fit, try it here for the Maxie's

I have a good idea for making the cross brace's for you guy's doing the mod's to the floating shaft pumps, involves re interpreting the intended uses of the hand held rotary device (may invalidate warranty lol) I will add a photo or to save long winded explanations ;)

Done!

Should be able to make any size with most materials & thicknesses, rotary bit's like that come as standard in cheep kit pack (I wish the router bit's did to)

Now to find an atatchment that will fit it with a hole small enough for the prop

heres what im going to use for the housing. A drian cap at lowes $3. Fit the 802/AC70 or 402/ AC50 or 901/AC110. Exact size does not matter it fiits them all, remmber it does not have be a perfect fit with the ACs. just drill a hole for the shaft, glue it on the pump and go. the (white part was for a 3" prop and another defferent project.)

Ive done a lot of modding on the maxijet 1200's. I thought I would try my hand at the 802's next. The following pictures are what I came up with. It was very easy to mod compared to the maxijets because of the fixed shaft. The only downfall is they are just a tad bigger than the maxijets. However, they are a lot more powerful.

I used an Octura 1440 LH prop. I had to dremel just a little bit off the bottom of the prop in order to make the pump start up 100% of the time on its own.

I did a flow test and this pump filled a 2.5 gallon bag in an average of 3 seconds. That makes it run at around 3000 GPH.

This mod would make a nice substitute for a big Tunze pump or the new Vortech pumps while you are saving up money to buy those expensive pumps.

I have a mounting solution that I will be building this weekend. In the meantime, I thought I would show you my idea on the pump part of the mod. You really dont need a huge housing sticking off the pump in order to get good flow.

Here are some pics.

Ive been following this thread for a few weeks now, I am planning on stream moding for my next tank which I plan to start piecing together real soon using MJs.

However I do have Aqua Clears, about 4 of them which makes me wonder if they are worth trying. So today I took one apart and took the housing off the impeller and the impeller off it was kinda noisy. So my question is with the prop and housing on in a Stream mod does it still make alot of humming? Secondly these power heads are well known not to like wave makers does that make for a un wave maker friendly Stream powerhead?

thanks guys!
Will

Ball, what size is the "Octura 1440" these pumps are so much stronger than mj it seems that they should be able to triple 3000gph. your housing look great nice and compact. did you try the prop a little futher out away from the pump? could your prop be to close to the housing may not be getting enough water coming in from behind the prop.

can you they us more about this

Can you get more pictures of the actual impeller and magnet without the housing on? or removed from the case?
