D, did you order your props straight from Octura? If so, how was their pricing on small orders like that? Was the shipping and stuff reasonable?

Yes I did. You can order at any volume. INfact they will even look up any local shops that will have their props for you if needed.

Shipping is via USPS Priority and is about $5. Their prop prices are of course cheaper than any shops around. Most are $1 or under each.

Do I need to order 2 of the 1435 props for each stream? I was thinking about using a MJ900, I think I remember the 900 can turn both of them. I'm also a little confused on how the piece is cut that attaches to the MJ. Do I have to cut that notch into normal 1.5" PVC? I thought I read that was the "test cap", though I'm not sure what that means. I'm sorry for all of the questions, it's hard to retain all of the info from 45 pages :)

You can use dual 1435 but IMO it's not really needed. Better to use a 2035 instead.

BTW... One single 1435 feels like more flow than the dual Nitros.

The groove that is cut on the PVC pipe can be done on many different ways. Some on a miter saw, tile saw, and some people even use just a Dremel or similar rotary tool to do it. If you don't have the tools or confidence to use a power saw, you should opt for the test cap method.

What do you mean when you say test cap method? This is where I got confused on what to do. And I was planning to order the $10 dremel-like tool you had listed in the other thread. Thanks again for the help!

Has anyone ordered these kits from Matt and not recieved them? I know this is not RC's concern and banned Matt from RC as a result of selling through this forum. I had ordered my kits a month ago, just curious how much of a 'stand up guy' Matt is.

The test cap method means that you are using the PVC test cap to connect the housing to the MJ body instead of cutting the groove into the pipe itself (check the very first page from the original thread). The other easy solution would be to use the existing MJ cap. If you cut off the nozzle from the MJ cap, it will fit very nicely inside a 1.5" SCH40 PVC pipe.

what does the prop stop do?

It prevents the propeller from spinning the wrong way and turning your MJ pump into a sushi blender :)

D.

I read that the prop is 1" from the stop, if the blade turns the wrong way does it move forward into the stop and after hitting the stop does it start spinning correctly ? I am trying to understand how it works.

Thanks

Actually it's less than 1 inch away and the more agressive your pitch is on the properller, the closer to the stopper it needs to be IME.

But yes that is how it works.

Can you put together a list of what the largest pump you can run a given prop with is? I tried the octura 1435 on a MJ400 and it stalled...so Im taking it that it was too big. But the Nikko 3-blade prop from tower hobbies works great on the MJ400...just want to know if im getting as much as I can. It feels like 500gph maybe....

I have Octura 1440, 1455, 1445, 1435

I have Dumas 3004 (1.75" w/ 3/16 hole)

I have Graupner 2308 (3-blade)

What MJ will I need to run each prop?

MJ400 - single or dual 1.25" Dumas, single 1.25" Nitro Hammer. don't know about the Graupner as I have never used that prop before.

MJ600 - The above and Octura 1435

MJ900 - ^ and single Octura 2035, single 1440, or single 1.75" Dumas (some older MJ900 pumps may have problems spinning this)

MJ1200 - ^ and 1.75" Dumas. Even dual 1.75" Dumas

The 1445, 1455 Octuras are too big for Maxijets

From the lastest pictures it seem you have continued to improve the mod to a point of near perfection. Nice job in deed.

I hope we can also come up with the best attachment options for people to work on.

Ok here are the Octura propellers (and combination of) that worked with a Maxijet

59639octuras.jpg

From left to right respectively from weakest to strongest in terms of flow.

single 1435
dual 1435 (feels about the same as a single 2035)
single 2035
single 1240
single 1440

What didn't work

dual 2035
dual 1440
dual 1240
single 1445
single 1245

We definitely have reached the limit for the Maxijets

so forget the 1.75" Dumas, the single 1240 and single 1440 are better ? is the 1440 substantially stronger than the 1240 ? i assume the test you did were with a MJ 1200 ?

do you have a guess at what the GPH is of all the above options ?

thanks : )

The Dumas 3004 (1.75" w/ 3/16" hole) is still the king of flow.

so in order of flow it goes ?

single 1435
dual 1435 (feels about the same as a single 2035)
single 2035
single 1240
single 1440
dumas 3004 1.75
dual dumas 3004's 1.75

i wouldnt putthe dual dumas ontop of the single. i have tried both side by side and the single has better flow. i feel the drag from the dual props slow the maxi down too much to make it efficient. the single 1.75's in my tank, 2 of them, are a LOT of flow, took some serious tweeking to get everything to work in harmony, but now that it is a have some very very very ncie fierce random flow, almost all corals get flow ranging from a gentle sway one second to a a fierce blast from all directions the next.

might have to get another video posted os the new flow

Tim

here is a good pick for mounting the maxi using some sieo parts and a magnet scraper, i have dont mine like this and have only one regret, should have got the larger mag scraper as they can slide around if they are angled too much.
